The Clinical Educator for Perioperative Services provides a combination of education, staff development and leadership while promoting evidence-based clinical practice for the preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative phases of surgery. The educator creates and delivers a variety of education curriculum and coordinates all perioperative educational opportunities; is responsible for new employee orientation; evaluation of staff competencies; implementation of new policies and procedures as needed; organizing unit in-services; ORNIP and working collaboratively with the Nurse Managers and Director. This individual works both independently and with direction of the Nurse Manager and Director to assess each unit’s learning needs and participates in the development of unit based education plans that exceed standards. The educator demonstrates the ability to empower and support employees to be experts in their fields, and establishes positive partnerships with staff and physicians to meet mutual goals and create an overall exceptional patient experience.
The value you’ll bring to the team:
Provides didactic, lab, clinical training, instruction and functional education for all of Surgical Services.
Coordinates clinical rotations for school affiliations in healthcare programs.
Assists with Annual Competencies of all Surgical Services to include Endoscopy, PAT, OPS, Pre-Op, PACU and Operating Room.
Participates in Department Quality Improvement processes.
Provides back-up for NSQUIP (National Surgical Quality Improvement Program) abstraction.
Assists with patient care in the perioperative departments as needed. (Scrub or circulate as needed)
Collaborates with department managers, clinical leads, and Education Department to maintain the system for tracking education and ongoing competency documentation.
Facilitates the orientation of new employees and provides orientation to current staff in given areas as needed.
Develops implements and monitors special educational projects as assigned by the managers.
Promotes a unit environment that encourages retention, development of staff, customer service, and family-centered care
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
3 years OR Experience
Standards of AORN, ASPAN, AAMI
Knowledge of accreditation requirements, TJC, HFAP, etc
Bachelor of Science in Nursing, enrolled in a Master’s of Science of Nursing program
Current North Carolina RN License
