The Occupational Therapist (OT) is responsible for performing age and diagnosis specific assessment and treatment relevant to the patient's/resident's/client's individual needs. This assessment may include cognitive, sensory, neuromuscular, perceptual motor skills, psychosocial skills, functional daily living and work related skills, and home/work/community environments. Based on the assessment, the OT then develops a plan of care, initiates, performs and manages treatments as indicated, assesses response to treatment and assists in discharge planning. The OT provides education related to the treatment program, disease process and prevention of further injuries to the patient/resident/client and other members of the health care team. The OT delegates, as appropriate aspects of care to the COTA or Rehabilitation aide based on their job description.

NON EXEMPT

Responsible for directing staff, including Occupational Therapy Assistants, Occupational Therapy Aides, Occupational Therapy certification applicants and Occupational Therapy students.

Evaluates patients and recommends appropriate treatment plan, based on Occupational Therpay standards of care.

Assess patient pain and make appropriate referrals for intervention.

Develop and implement an education plan for both the patient and family as appropriate.

Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs.

Manages and operates equipment safely.

Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients' needs are met and hospital policy is followed.

Consults other departments, as appropriate, to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.

Meets current documentation standards and policies.

Participates in staff education

Coordinates, delegates and supervises responsibilities assigned to supportive staff

Adheres to dress code.

Completes annual educational requirements.

Maintains regulatory requirements.

Wears identification while on duty.

Maintains confidentiality at all times.

Attends department staff meetings as required within the department.

Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work in designated time.

Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.

Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.

Coordinates efforts in meeting regulatory compliance, federal, state and local regulations and standards
