Job Summary
Delivers radiation therapy. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range in assigned clinical area.
Job Duties
- Simulates new patients with the aid of the physician.
- Assists in localizing tumor volume and critical organs using radiographic techniques and CT Simulation.
- Determines optimum fields to cover with proper information.
- Takes treatment field photograph and tattoos approved field.
- Records all information needed for reliable reproduction.
- Enters necessary information into oncology information management system for patient simulation. Interprets appropriate tables to determine dosage for emergency on call cases.
- Calculates number of monitor units or exposure time for each treatment session to achieve prescribed dose for emergency patients.
- Explains procedures and answers patient questions.
- Schedules treatments in oncology information management system and gives a copy of the schedule to the patient.
- Observes and questions patient concerning nutrition status, side effects, and emotional health. Positions patient for treatment reproducing simulation setup.
- Positions, sets controls, compares to oncology information management system for verification, and activates treatment machine.
- Monitors patient during treatment.
- Maintains accessory medical equipment such as IVs and oxygen.
- Obtains weekly portal verification films, daily verification for intensity-modulated radiation therapy and stereotactic radiolsurgery and cone beam as directed.
- Resolves questions concerning patient's prescription with physician.
- Notifies physician of significant patient problems and if treatment plan appears to deliver excessive dose.
- Maintains accurate records of factors used in calculation, treatment dates, and current and accumulated doses.
- Completes charts and submits appropriate billing.
- Reviews the treatment record in oncology information management system for completeness and accuracy on a daily basis.
- Completes necessary quality assurance checklists in oncology information management system.
- Performs equipment warm-up procedures.
- Maintains treatment machines and accessories.
- Informs proper personnel of equipment malfunctions.
- Performs quality control tests of equipment.
- Immediately notifies leadership of needed supplies.
- Acts as Radiation Oncology liaison. Provides support to physicians as requested.
- Performs limited duties in dosimetry as required.
- Meets Radiation Safety requirements and policies with daily patient treatments and activities.

Position Details
- 7am- 8am until 4 pm -5pm - Shift hours
- There is the chance of needing to cover any of the 5 clinics within the system.
- No on call or weekends.

Licensed Radiation Therapist - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
