The community you’ll be caring for:
• AdventHealth Apopka is a seven-story, 120-bed hospital offering an extensive range of services including expanded surgical services, advanced surgical suites and a catheterization lab
• The hospital also features a 30,000-square-foot emergency department with pediatric-friendly beds, imaging services, a full-service cafeteria, chapel, gift shop and on-site fire station
• The hospital opened in December 2017, replacing the 50-bed hospital that AdventHealth had operated in downtown Apopka for more than four decades
The role you’ll contribute:
The Medical Laboratory Scientist LP is responsible for laboratory support procedures, including processing of all laboratory specimens in all areas of the clinical laboratory. Maintains accurate laboratory records. Follows laboratory policies and procedures; maintains quality control practices in the Laboratory. Acquires state licensure and/or national certification within 120 days of hire.

- Participates in the evaluation of new laboratory techniques and procedures
- Assists with data collection and special projects, as assigned
- Assists in the documentation and submission of required laboratory, departmental, and staff statistics/reports
- Performs assigned pre-analytical activities related to laboratory testing, which may include general and analytical equipment maintenance, function checks and documentation; specimen collection as needed; biological specimen processing; cleaning and disinfection of selected or assigned laboratory equipment and spaces; quality control and calibration performance; and other pre[1]analytical activities
- Receives, prioritizes, and processes specimens in a timely manner to meet or exceed turnaround time standards.
- Performs post-analytical non-result reporting activities related to laboratory testing in accordance with established procedures. Provides and acts on technical and support information related to the elements of laboratory testing for all age groups, neonatal through geriatric patients
- Reads all Laboratory documents – SOPs and Forms for assigned area
- Attends and completes all AdventHealth and Laboratory orientation requirements.
- Starts initial training in area assigned using previously tested samples and LIS test site, including instrument operation and maintenance, QC and LIS training
- Provides resolution to customer service issues within guidelines and supports education to clinical staff as appropriate or requested.
- Recognizes that the attainment of knowledge is every employee's responsibility & accepts accountability for staying current on all written or electronic communication
- Follows appropriate safety policies including the appropriate use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling. Demonstrates understanding and adheres to Chemical Hygiene plan and Infection Control policies. Employee job duties may include transport of hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area; employee will be required to complete initial training (prior to handling hazardous waste) and refresher training to include proper handling and transport of hazardous waste, and proper selection, use and disposal of personal protective equipment

- Associate 0 years’ experience
- Eligible for state licensure as a Medical Laboratory Technologist or equivalent term for assigned work area based on the state regulatory agencies
- Eligible for national certification as Medical Laboratory Technologist/Scientist or equivalent as required by respective state
- Appropriate state licensure OR appropriate national certification if required to be obtained within 120 days of hire
