The New Mexico VA Health Care System (NMVAHCS) is seeking full-time Registered Nurses (RN) for the Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (MHRRTP) located in Albuquerque NM within the Behavioral Health Care Line (BHCL). The MHRRTP RN is accountable for adhering to established policies and procedures and for demonstrating self-direction, and creative approaches to the management of complex patient care. The RN uses Veteran-centered, evidence-based knowledge, training, and clinical skills to provide high quality, safe patient care. The RN demonstrates effective interpersonal skills when communicating with both residents and staff. The RN actively seeks out educational opportunities to enhance nursing knowledge and shares the new knowledge gained with other staff. The RN demonstrates self-direction in evaluating personal strengths and weaknesses and identifies methods for self-development. The RN directly reports to the Nurse Manager MHRRTP and is indirectly accountable to the Chief Nurse, BHCL. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to: Assessment, evaluation, and care planning for Veterans to meet medical and mental health needs, using a recovery-based approach. Direct patient care to include the use of medical equipment as needed, and medication education and management. Clinical supervision of Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) and Nursing Assistants (NA) to include delegation of duties within the LPN or NA scope of practice. Participates in ongoing MHRRTP interdisciplinary treatment planning with the clinical staff. Interacts with a variety of patients and families/significant others for the purpose of providing nursing care, encouragement, and fostering patient self-reliance and independence. Provides appropriate care for patients generally ranging in age from 18 through the geriatric years, taking into consideration diagnosis, physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs. May provide direct supervision and be assigned as a preceptor to new or less experienced staff or nursing students.
