The Advanced Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) position is housed within the Mental Health Care Line at the Michael E. DeBakey VAMC, which is the busiest and most complex facilities in the country. The Advanced MFT will serve as the Training Director for the OAA-approved MFT Internship. MEDVAMC is home to the first Marriage and Family Therapy Internship program in VA with 4 MFT interns. In this context, the Advanced MFT will have primary responsibility for the development of policies and procedures related to training, maintenance of the relationship between MEDVAMC and its academic affiliates in MFT, recruitment and selection of the trainees each year, and daily operations of the training program. The Advanced MFT will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with local, state and national organizational requirements related to Marriage and Family Therapy. The Advanced MFT also provides direct patient care services consistent with his/her role as a Marriage and Family Therapist working within the Family Therapy Program. This includes provision of clinical assessments, individual, couples, family and group therapy as appropriate, with an emphasis on evidence-based approach.
