JOB SUMMARY : The Clinical Psychologist is an individual licensed by the State of Texas Board of Examiners of Psychologists for the independent practice of psychology. Responsible for providing psychological services in assigned clinical areas, participating in program development and implementation for supervision of students or trainees in the delivery of psychological services and for participating in multidisciplinary teams/research. Plans and implements treatment programs, and participates in various professional and community organizations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE : Requires depth within a specialized, critical discipline and/or breadth of substantive professional knowledge that crosses disciplines within the professional field. Leads others to solve complex problems; uses sophisticated analytical thought to exercise judgement and identify innovative solutions Works independently, with consultation as needed in complex situations Responsibility to provide clinical care of patients including assessments through interviews, chart/history review, observation, and psychological testing procedures; treatment including individual, group or family psychotherapy Communicates difficult concepts and negotiates with others to adopt a different point of view Documents patient, by charting the progress relative to problem identification, goals and ongoing patient evaluations. Serves as member of interdisciplinary team, and participates in planning and development of treatment programs for patients. Formulates psychological treatment program, selecting appropriate form of therapy and utilizing various psychological techniques. May serve as leader of an interdisciplinary team as appointed by the Program Director. Psychologists may also perform other tasks/roles as applicable to their service site including: Plans and conducts continuing care groups for former patients, referring patients to other professionals and community agencies to fulfill continuing care needs. Shares inquiry calls and crisis intervention responsibilities with other members of interdisciplinary team. Conducts educational programs for patients, families, other special groups, and the general public as assigned. Serves as lecturer as requested. KEY SUCCESS FACTORS : Knowledge of psychology, related disciplines, and psychological tests, measures and recovery techniques and practices. Knowledge of psychological assessments and ability to use standardized assessment instruments. Knowledge of counseling and therapy techniques. Ability to interpret diagnostic interviews and test data. Ability to conduct individual and group psychotherapy. Ability to analyze behavioral deficits. Ability to develop plans for implementing and monitoring activities and skill acquisition and behavior management. Ability to maintain records of services and clients.
