This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Learn more The CTVHCS is recruiting for a highly qualified Physical Therapist (Program Coordinator) for the PHYSICAL MEDICINE & REHABILITATIVE SERVICE located in TEMPLE, TX. The Primary Purpose of this Position is: Clinic Coordinator of Education for Physical Therapy Students or Interns at the Central Texas Veterans Healthcare Center System (CTVHCS). This includes Waco, Temple, and Austin facilities. Clinical Coordinator assists in the growth and development of more junior physical therapists by serving as a mentor and model for outstanding clinical practice and through participation in research and educational activities Clinical Coordinator determines the readiness of physical therapists and therapy assistants to serve as clinical instructors for students, supervises experiences, and communicates with the academic program regarding student/intern performance, and provides essential information about the clinical education program to physical therapy programs. Establishes, negotiates, and maintains, Affiliation of Agreements with multiple Universities and Colleges for DPT and PTA programs. Collaborates with multiple Universities for intern assignments for all CTVHCS sites. Consults with staff and resident physicians through patient presentations attendance at ward rounds, specialty clinics, and/or conferences. Functions/Duties: Incumbent serves as Clinic Coordinator of Education for Physical Therapy Interns at the Central Texas Veterans Healthcare Center System (CTVHCS). This includes Waco, Temple, and Austin facilities. Coordinates with other therapists and therapy assistants to schedule for students/interns and serve as a liaison with the academic coordinator (ACCE) in determining when student/intern(s) may be sent for training, number of students, areas of training and assignments. Responsible for coordinating the administration of clinical training programs from Physical Therapy students or interns, PT assistant students, and the training of facility staff as clinical educators. Establishes, negotiates, and maintains, Affiliation of Agreements with multiple Universities and Colleges for DPT and PTA programs. Collaborates with multiple Universities for intern assignments for all CTVHCS sites. Maintains collaborative relationships within department and with other departments or affiliated programs. Will prepare the clinical instructor (Cl) for the student/intem(s) arrival by providing the student packet once received from the ACCE of the college or university. Also provides up to date APT A policies on student supervision. Collaborates with Therapists at all sites to coordinate Clinical Internships in all levels of care. Provides appropriate guidance and training to all physical therapy clinical instructors (Cl). Provides training in the use of University grading tools for students. Serves as Clinical Instructor for Physical Therapy and Physical Therapist Assistant students as assigned. Observes and evaluates their performance in order to assess their capabilities as physical therapists utilizing evaluation guides provided by affiliated educational institutions. Responsible for attending continuing educational seminars and in-services to ensure state of the art programming and maintain competencies. Responsible for participating and contributing to the advancement of knowledge and techniques related to Physical Therapy and other related topics to PT practice and specialized rehabilitative treatment strategies. Identifies, collects and analyzes appropriate patient care information to provide a data base for any needed research activities within the VA system. Utilizes current evidence-based practice concepts and principles in Physical Therapy. Assists in research trials through attendance at continuing education courses and conferences. Orients, trains, and serves as a mentor to volunteers, aides, students and visitors who supplement and enhance patient treatment. Incumbent must have the ability to use professional knowledge effectively and must possess initiative, tact, resourcefulness and good judgement in exercise authority. Represents the PT Section, when designated, at clinics, planning conference, and assigned medical meetings. Ability to develop and coordinate treatment and/or educational programs within a concentrated field or specialty area, such as, but not limited to, amputee, spinal cord injury, chronic pain, student clinical education/residency programming, polytrauma/traumatic brain injury. Reusable Medical Equipment (RME): The incumbent will have knowledge of the processes for Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) as required by this position. The incumbent will be required to maintain current knowledge of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Occasional Weekend as needed.
