The LPMHC for whom this functional statement applies is assigned to the Psychology Service of the South Texas Veterans Health Care System and matrixed to the Substance Use Disorder (SUD)Program. Incumbent has specialized knowledge and expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of a variety of general mental health disorders and conditions. Provides a full range of psychological services and diagnoses mental disorders, particularly for complex or unusually difficult patients with substance use disorders and cooccurring mental health disorders. Provides education to patients, family members, and significant others. Provides a range of psychological therapeutic interventions with individuals with mental health and substance use disorders utilizing empirically supported modalities when indicated. Consults with and serves as a resource for other professional personnel concerning the need for, evaluation of, and development of psychological services in STVHCS. May be asked to assist in the selection, training, and supervision of staff at lower grade within assigned program area, Psychology Service, or STVHCS to include the LPMHC training program.
