A person in this position would provide routine Respiratory Therapy modalities to patients as appropriate based on this student role and their competency level. The RT student would be required to show competency in Respiratory Therapy modalities prior to assuming RT role and will work under the direct supervision of a licensed respiratory therapist.
Performs respiratory therapy duties under the direct supervision of a licensed RT as assigned, including but not limited to:
Maintains changes and discontinues medical gas.
Performs aerosol and humidity therapies.
Administers routine airway clearance.
Administers lung expansion therapies.
Monitors Bronchial drainage.
Performs ABG (Arterial Blood Gases)
Participates in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Provides patients, families and other providers in disease management education.
Reviews patients chart to make recommendations for Plan of care
Interpret spirometry results
Demonstrates effective communication.
Communicates effectively with CPS staff and other Interprofessional team members.
Strives to provide excellent customer service
Use of AIDET (acknowledge, introduce, duration, explanation and thank you) with patient and families
Listen and understand customer needs
Uses error prevention skills
