Work Hours/Shift:
Full Time Days – Monday – Friday
8:00 am – 5:00 pm

You Will Be Responsible For:

• Performs patient cancer and genetic risk assessment and initiates counseling as appropriate
• Develops genetic counseling service at Shawnee Mission Health
• Will assist in accreditation programs for SMH including NAPBC and Commission on Cancer
• Time may eventually be spent at Overland Park and Lenexa campuses
• Provides coordination of genetic counseling services to these hospitals and initiates genetics counseling programs at these hospitals and others as needed
• Conducts presentations and education sessions
•  Develops strategic ventures with marketing to grow oncology programs including breast and colon in Community Outreach events
• Conducts genetic counseling services to the Kansas City area
• Participates and supports other Oncology departmental activities
• Collaborates with breast surgeon to design and coordinate Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Clinic
• Aids in the coordination, risk assessment, and genetic testing of patients seen in the Multidisciplinary Breast Cancer Clinic 

What You Will Need:

• Master’s Degree in Genetic Counseling from an American Board of Genetic Counseling certified program
• 1-3 years of experience working in a cancer genetic counseling setting
• Board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Genetic Counseling

Job Summary:

Responsible for cancer genetic counseling services for Shawnee Mission Health.  Genetic counseling services will include coordinating a Hereditary Cancer Clinic and Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Clinic as well as participating in a Multidisciplinary Breast Cancer Clinic and High-Risk Breast Cancer Clinic. This role will function as consultant and coordinator for genetic counseling services for all Shawnee Mission Health physicians.  This position is also responsible for strategic planning and developing marketing opportunities and education to the public, including outreach programs and consultative services to area physicians.

The genetic counselor is responsible for all genetic counseling services which include assessment of patients at risk for hereditary cancer predisposition and other genetic conditions, pedigree analysis, assessment for genetic and genomic testing, counseling on outcomes of testing, and hereditary cancer/genetic and genomic education for staff and the general public across the life span continuum.
