A shift leader performs patient care activities/services for assigned patients; assists in maintaining a safe and therapeutic treatment environment that meets the physical, emotional, and personal needs of patients. Under the direction of the charge nurse, provides leadership, guidance, and support to the assigned unit and serves in a mentoring role for MHT's.
A MHT serves as a mentor and positive role model for staff. Also, provides direction and guidance to staff in the implementation of the program. Serves as positive role model for the patients to observe and learn socially effective values, attitudes and behaviors. MHT will assist in the treatment program and implementation of patient treatment plans, under the direction of a therapist. Implements appropriate therapeutic activities, approaches, and related psychiatric interventions, within the therapeutic environment. Is responsible for implementation of the program structure and assigned functions according to the philosophy, goals and direction of the treatment program guidelines. Facilitates groups and uses therapeutic techniques to interact with participants. The MHT must be able to adapt to change easily and able to complete necessary documentation. The MHT is a key member in a team approach to providing care for the patient. Provides input to therapeutic approach. CPI and CPR/First Aid required.
