:Copper Hills Youth Center is a 197-bed private residential treatment center for adolescents 12-17 years of age. We counsel, teach and mentor children placed in our care and give each child a chance to make successful changes. We strive to improve lives and help children help themselves. At Copper Hills, we treat boys and girls who have emotional, behavioral and psychiatric disorders, including anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder and depression. We also specialize in caring for patients with Asperger's syndrome. For youth with co-existing substance abuse problems, we offer weekly individualized therapy that focuses on education, recovery and abstinence. Our accredited private school allows students to continue their education while receiving treatment. GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB The primary therapist provides psychotherapeutic services to residents under the direction of the Director of Clinical Services. Therapists serve as a member of the interdisciplinary team supporting the unit's treatment program and philosophy to assure the deliverance of quality treatment and implements the therapeutic treatment plan by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
____1. Has a general psychiatric knowledge base including DSM V disorder symptoms.
____2. Observes residents for abnormal physical or mental behavior and monitors progress with components of treatment plan.
____3. Provides individual and family therapy in a timely manner, using appropriate treatment modalities.
____4. Provides group process oriented therapy in a timely manger using appropriate treatment modalities.
____5. Attends and actively participates in all treatment team meetings with completion of all reviews. Contacts and schedules counseling sessions with family, significant others and involved agencies. Arranges for family visits off and on facility sites.
____6. Acts as liaison with family and other agencies to reunify resident with family and reintegrate back into community.
____7. Participates in training and development for purpose of professional growth and skill enhancement, including hospital in service training, mandatory skills and all staff meeting.
____8. Maintains appropriate boundaries with residents and is able to understand the role of transference and counter transference in the therapeutic process. Has understanding of professional confidentiality and ethical responsibility to residents.
___9. Responds to any emergency situation involving residents in treatment.
___10. Interacts with mental health workers and shift managers in obtaining feedback regarding resident behaviors and intervention. Participates as a team member by cooperating with mental health workers and demonstrates compromise and expression of opinions as appropriate.
___11. Attends staff meetings as required and performs duties as a positive role model for residents and colleagues.
___12. Utilizes chain of command in all aspects of program and follows organization's policies and procedures.
___13. Completes psychosocial assessments to identify treatment focus by interviewing resident, family and significant others within specified policy time frames.
___14. Completes master treatment plan and reviews it with the resident in specified policy time frames, identifying problems, long and short term goals and interventions..
___15. Updates the master treatment plan on a consistent basis and ensures it reflect current treatment goals.
___16. Individual and family treatment is given and documented in the medical record within the designated time frames.
___17. Develops and coordinates an individualized discharge plan to meet resident's aftercare or discharge needs.
___18. Ensures that progress notes are timely and written in a clear and legible manner. Master treatment plan goals are coordinated with sessions. Notes are clinically pertinent.
___19. Provides monthly reports of resident progress in a timely manner to state agencies, referral sources and families.
___20. Understands and is capable of determining which residents are at a higher risk level and the responsibilities associated with keeping those and other residents safe.
___21. Understands the circumstances that would require an Incident Report and understand the reporting procedure.
___22. Organizational Skills. Allocates and utilizes resources and information efficiently. Prioritizes tasks, balances resident care with other duties and manages time effectively.
___23. Reliability/Dependability. Arrives for work in a timely and regular manner. Notifies supervisor in a timely manner of unscheduled absences, vacation, and other time off.
___24. Initiative / Flexibility. Exercises initiative on the job. Demonstrates flexibility and adapts to changing circumstances, priorities, resources and needs.
